Deborah Wong is a longtime fan of Great Leap. She is an ethnomusicologist and teaches at the University of California, Riverside. She was a member of the Taiko Center of Los Angeles from 1997-2009 and is the faculty adviser for Senryu Taiko at UCR. She served as a presenter for Nobuko Miyamoto and FandangObon at the 2016 Smithsonian Folklife Festival. Her book, Speak It Louder: Asian Americans Making Music (Routledge, 2004) offers critical reflections on how and why Asian Americans make music and choose to listen to certain kinds of music.
